In June 2011, Minot and surrounding communities in northern North Dakota along the Mouse (Souris) River experienced historic flooding. Using a fire analogy: If the excessive snowfall/rainfall during the winter and spring was the match, then the mismanagement of dams controlling river flows was the gasoline. This provides better context as to why many refer to this particular flood as a “man-made disaster”.
Jim Olson hosts “Tale of the Mouse”: A tale of “…destruction and misery, resilience and determination, heart and soul, and lingering questions.” The documentary aired on the KX News television network in western/central North Dakota in late 2011. The documentary is a tale of the flood from birth to uninhabitable homes.
